Acting

Philosophy of Acting

I believe an actor’s purpose is to serve the performance through clear articulation of intention through a holistic use of the actor’s instrument. An actor must develop an understanding of their own process by utilizing a multitude of acting techniques that incorporating body, voice, and character analysis. As the actor grows and becomes more experienced, this process should be frequently modified by re-evaluation of methods and approach. Each new character should cause the actor to question their current process, does it best serve the needs of that performance or are adjustments required. This may mean investigating a character in a new way by using a different acting technique. Having a multitude of techniques to rely upon provides the actor with the ability to find more new and nuanced choices to use in a performance.

Thus, I believe it is imperative for an actor to make learning a life-long goal. Continued training can deepen one’s understanding of the craft, as well as, expand the creative tools at the actor’s disposal.
